1. Communications pass through our new Sendem web server.
Sendem is hosted at one of Australia's most secure data centres with
plenty of capacity for growth.
2. Sendem also provides a web browser interface so that users
who do not have SMART can enter and view jobs using only a web browser.
Security is tightly controlled so that they only see information that
concerns them.
Sendem users may also send jobs via email to mobile devices or control rooms.
3. SMART now comes with the SMART Communications Processor
which handles communications with the
Sendem server. It also provides sending of jobs via SMS and sending and
receiving jobs via email.

1. An alarm company sends you an alarm response using their
web browser
2. The job appears in your SMART or Sendem dispatch screen a few seconds
later.
3. You confirm that the correct provider has been selected and
press the OK button to email the job to your patrolman.
4. The alarm company updates the job to advise there are now
multiple alarms. This updated information is automatically copied to
your control room and the patrolman.
5. Once the patrolman has completed the job they hit the Reply
button on their email and enter some simple codes, e.g. O
2315 F 2340 R 2 means 'on site 23:15, offsite 23:40, all
secured' (you define the code).
6. This information is immediately updated in your SMART or Sendem window
system and the alarm company's web browser.
You have just completed an alarm response without a single phone or
radio call! Since everybody is working from the same information, there
will be no disagreement about what occurred.
Internet:
Your SMART server needs an internet connection. Even a low speed
connection is sufficient. SmartNet uses the same technology as your web
browser so you shouldn't need to make any changes to your firewall or
other network settings.
Email:
Now that almost all mobile devices (we used to call them 'phones') have
email capabilities, email has become a very practical way of
dispatching work to mobile workers. When you dispatch a job to someone
via email they can hit the reply button and use very simple codes to
return details of the outcome, which are then automatically updated
into Smart.
If you want to dispatch using email you need to create an email account
for SmartNet to use. If you wish, we can provide one for you at no
charge.
SMS:
The SMS network has limitations which mean that we cannot reliably
determine which message is being replied to, so SMS replies (unlike
email) are not automatically handled by SMART.
If you want to dispatch using SMS you need an account with one of the
supported SMS providers, currently Traitel or SMSGlobal. We
have selected these providers because they charge a very low price
(about half that of most providers). If you prefer to use another
provider, please
contact us arrange support.
SQL Server
If you have a very old SMART installation (pre 2002) which has never
been updated you may be using SQL Server 7. In this case you need to
upgrade to a later version of SQL Server. The Express edition of SQL
Server is free of charge and can handle 6 or more simultaneous users
(depending on load).
Your Sendem
page
We have probably already created a Sendem page for you which explains
to your customers or contractors that they can now communicate with
your SMART system using only a web browser. You should find this page
at www.sendem.com/MyCompany, where MyCompany is
replaced by your company name.
If your page hasn't been configured yet or you would like changes to
it, please contact Sendem
Support. It will look something like this.
If you're a SMART user there is no additional charge for your
SmartNet connection or for your basic Sendem account. SMART
rental starts at around $15 per day.
If you don't have SMART you need a Sendem account, starting at
$50 per month.
These charges cover communication with multiple SMART
and Sendem users.
